The lineman’s rope attaches to the loops on either side of the saddle, keeping you secure as you ascend. If you know someone with a saddle, try theirs to find a fit you like.
One of the biggest advantages of a saddle and platform over a tree stand is the lighter weight and quicker tree-switching ability. We recommend using a safety harness and lifeline when climbing, but most saddle hunters prefer the lineman’s rope and tree tether for mobility. The lineman’s rope is familiar to treestand hunters, while the tree tether attaches to the bridge of your saddle.
The bridge, which connects to the tree tether, is usually included with the saddle, but you’ll likely need to purchase the lineman’s rope separately. Most companies sell a "kit" that includes the saddle, bridge, lineman’s rope, and tree tether.
An optional upgrade is an ascender, a device that replaces the prusik knot on your ropes for easier adjustment, but it’s not necessary for starting out.
